Trip Report: Georgia

When I first visited Georgia in 2012, little did I know that a picture I would take there would somehow go viral in Georgia after being featured by CNN as one of their 16 favorite travel Instagram shots of that year (mine is #3). Months after that I was invited by the Georgian National Tourism Administration to visit the country again.

I requested an itinerary that was very similar to that of 2012 that covers the cities and areas of Tbilisi, Kazbegi, Mestia, Kutaisi, and Batumi. The duration was one week and in retrospect, I should have probably skipped an area or two in order to avoid driving long hours per day, but all in all it wasn’t so bad as our guide was more than accommodating for our requests to stop for pictures or food or water.

I loved experiencing Georgia again with its amazing nature, great food, and quite possibly the friendliest people in the world.

If you prefer nature, head to Kazbegi, Mestia, and the surrounding areas. If you prefer wine, head to the Telavi area. If you prefer beaches, head to Batumi on the Black Sea. Whatever direction you go in, you are bound to find a plethora of monasteries and churches that will more than impress you.

I highly recommend staying at the Rooms Hotel in both Tbilisi and Kazbegi. The two properties are both super cozy and in fantastic locations.

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing detailed reviews of the hotels and places we went to.

Below are some pictures I took. More can be found on my Instagram account (@gmr83):
