Review: The Chedi Muscat Hotel

The Chedi Muscat Hotel is a luxury 5-star property located in the Omani capital and is part of the GHM hotel group and one of The Leading Hotels of the World

General Hotel Management (GHM) is a collection of top luxury hotels and boutique resorts in Asia, Middle East and Europe with contemporary Asian design. Leading Hotels of the World, Ltd. (LHW) identifies itself as a hospitality consortium owned by Hotel Representative, A.G. with more than 375 hotels and resorts in over 75 countries.

We arrived at the hotel after a short flight in Dubai to be welcomed by smiling faces and hot towels. After a quick check in we were taken on a tour of the property and then shown to our room, one of 158 on the property.

What I Liked About Chedi Muscat

  • The hotel has three swimming pools, one of which is for adults only although all three of them were relatively quiet at the time. The zen-like hotel also has a private beach which is perfect for just sitting there and relaxing. The palm trees, the lush grass, and the sound of the crashing waves made the perfect setting for hours and hours of lounging by the water. As you can see in the pictures below, the place oozes with relaxation.
  • The buffet breakfast was a delight — set at the restaurant within an Arabian themed courtyard and the food diversity was also adequate.

What I Didn’t Like About the Chedi Muscat

  • Our room at the hotel was small by Middle Eastern and GCC standards. And the building in which it was located seemed in serious need of renovation if not a complete redesign. The hallway and the color they chose for the walls felt like walking into a hospital. The suites looked better from the outside at least.
  • On our first day, we opted to eat outside the hotel for lunch but for dinner we ordered room service. Our food was tasteless and disappointing to say the least despite the great things we heard about the food and the restaurants at the hotel.

Verdict

I would come back to The Chedi Muscat if I can get a good deal. I loved the pools and the hotel grounds and the service, but would probably upgrade to a suite next time if it is affordable.
