Another hotel that recently opened in Dubai is the Dukes Dubai on Palm Jumeirah. As soon as I read the announcement on its soft opening, I was intrigued by their tagline of combining “quintessential British charm” and “cosmopolitan luxury”. The British charm comes from the fact that Dukes Dubai is the sister property of Dukes London.
The hotel — with its 279 rooms and 227 furnished serviced apartments — is much bigger than its London sister but feels very cozy as soon as you enter the lobby. Do not expect high ceilings and flashy colors here, but what you will get is minimalistic furniture and intense British vibes which will certainly convince you that the hotel has succeeded in living up to its claim of being a piece of Britain in the heart of Dubai.
We also had the chance to have dinner at the hotel’s Great British Restaurant, GBR, with its beautiful interior design and decoration. Their fish pie and walnut whip dessert are not to be missed! The hotel has a couple of other restaurants, including one of Dubai’s old favorites — the award-winning West 14th Steakhouse which is now operating as part of the hotel.
Another unique aspect of the hotel is its “Duchess Floor”, which is a floor of rooms entirely dedicated floor for female travellers, where no males are allowed whether for room service or housekeeping or anything else. I think this will be a big hit with many female travellers expecting a high level of privacy in their travels. The hotel is also very kid friendly and has a kids club house and various other activities geared to the entertainment of the little ones.
